supervision meeting

wednesday
29 august

met with adrian yesterday. lauren, another psych staff member, joined us.  she may be a second supervisor to me and my work.  so that could be great.  gave her a quick overview of what i want to be/ am studying.

but i had two goals for the meeting.  one was to nail down specifically what i am supposed to do for candidacy (as i started the document beast on monday/tuesday).  i kept getting the overview of what it entails but any answers as to how i fit into it being half way through.

so the decision was made that i would basically write it as how i see myself fitting into it.  which is fine. and a plan.  however, it was discovered from lauren's input that i maybe now should wait a bit before doing the whole process as it apparently does lock you into only doing what you've proposed (as opposed to adrian and i approaching it as simply the next project (not only project)).

so i have a revised plan of action as a result i guess.  and kind of goes back to my original thought of getting through the analyses of my UK collected data at the beginning of being here in australia.  (although i am a bit frustrated at the plan in the sense of it keeps changing because there's really no clear information about this whole candidacy thing).

second topic up for discussion was the mysterious hypothesis with missing data evidence.  so it was decided that i would need to run the additional analyses.  which i did today (30 august). and by doing, found out that the other 2 that are basically the same i did wrong.  so while i got real frustrated that i was re-doing analyses YET AGAIN, i suppose it was good that i caught my mistake.  it did change the results.  which i then had to delete and re-work in the whole document, but again, i suppose it is now more correct than it was before.  so i'll try to think about it that way.

so now it really is off my desk and onto lauren's (first, and then to adrian).  not sure how long it'll be off my desk until i have a whole'nother round of editting and revising to do. but hopefully at this point it won't be to the degree that it was to get it to this version.   and hopefully then it becomes chopping and editting to put out for publication.  because that would be awesome to get underway.

speaking of publication, that becomes the new driving force behind how i will end up spending my time here at curtin.  because a publishing plan is now going to be set for me in order to decide what i write for candidacy.  i like the idea of the publishing strategy as that's focused on my career starting not just getting through the degree.

does require a change in the way i was planning on spending time thinking in the next weeks though.
