one of the other phd students invited me to come along with her and a large group of friends for dinner and to play pool. they were going to bowl but that was already booked. two other phd students went to so it was a nice social evening.
the group ended up being very large -- too large to talk to or meet most of them. but it was nice to talk to a few new folks, and mainly hang around the other two phd peoples.
we had some japanese - i had teriyaki chicken which was tasty. pool was fun - we played in pairs as teams. although usually i can hit a few shots. i don't think i contributed more than one or two sunk balls. very poor showing. made me think of wanting (still) to play shuffleboard at a bar. i wonder if they have that here. there were no darts in the pool hall either (my mind had that as a possibility once i realized there was no hope for my pool abilities that evening).
anyway after that, we went to northbridge (an area downtown) for some ice cream. it was alright ice cream. and they walked me around the block to point things out to me (and while we were driving) which was very nice of them to do.
