tried to get a lot of reading of articles done, but it was extremely hard to focus.
on thursday (09 august), i didn't go to campus. couldn't manage to wake myself up. talked to mom on the video chat and then went with lorraine and the kids to the park at the foreshore. was quite a nice view across the river of downtown perth. went on the swings, had some ice cream, built a moat around a sand castle, and hung out as the sun set. adrian joined us after work and we had dinner back at their house. it was a lovely afternoon.

got my loan paperwork sorted out on friday (10 august) and hopefully that was then faxed on friday back to the states. going to have to make a phone call to verify that and the possibility that heriot watt may have actually (finally) taken a payment to finalize that whole nonsense. also spoke with the guy about me moving over to 'the hub' where all the postgrads are. it's farther away, but i would like to be with other students. although it's looking pretty likely that my nice new computer won't be coming with me either. boo.
went with adrian and the kids to meet lorraine at bradford beach saturday (11 august) afternoon. found some nice little shells on the beach. a bunch of people out on surf boards. i'd like to try surfing - found that i can get a block of lessons at a beach that doesn't seem to be too far from curtin's campus so that may be promising later on. apparently, they teach the kids in primary school - being in the ocean is such a part of their life that they teach the kids how to be safe and how to surf. i think that's pretty cool.

otherwise spent a lot of the weekend organizing and going through what articles i have as files on my computer. and making sure that the usb drives and laptop have the same files. now i'll be able to read through the abstracts and pick out ones to read now (vs. later) as there's no way i can go through them all. was hoping to go outside and enjoy today, but it rained almost all of the day so that didn't happen. sadly. been staring at the computer screen for far too long. was just trying to fix up the files of my itunes library, but have possibly made it worse - hoping not. we'll see i guess. but i think that's definitely another clue to be done with the computer files for now!
