the dreaded giagantic beast of a thing.
i'm quite happy that i was able to overcome the paralyzing fear of needing to deal with it this week. it was partly due from all of the work that needed to go into it. i mean even after fixing the grammar and a heap of adrian's comments in may/june. i still had so many comments and issues to deal with.
however, i have perservered this week. i think i only have one comment left (which i don't know how to address). so that's awesome.
the hypotheses have theory and they have been discussed one by one in a general discussion and the conclusion seems to still be okay.
i somehow managed to create a hypothesis that wasn't addressed in the bazillion analyses (still can't believe that), but barring that issue, i think it might be ready to go back to adrian. i had wanted to finish it yesterday, which did pretty much happen. but i've left it to be re-read today. which i still have left to do. it's just so long. i mean it was already longer than my masters dissertation, but now it's even longer. it will, like adrian proposed, make a nice sound when printed it out on paper and dropped on a table. and it will be the longest chapter in my thesis.
speaking of chapters of my thesis, adrian brought up my chapter one (the introduction) the other day and last week. while i have a draft of that (written 1+ ish years ago), i have a very strong feeling that it's going to need a done of work/revision/addition... and i suppose i migh face a bit of paralyzing fear with that one now. or i'll just put that off, although i might need to pull from it for my candidacy report.
a report, by the way, that has to be 35 pages (double spaced so maybe like 18 single) but still. that's a hefty document which goes to the faculty. and then you have to reduce it to 10. this seems like a lot of work. but i'm hoping to get some more information on it next week. and hopefully if i can pull from my intro chapter and my esm chapter for the background bits, it'll be something to compose part of the 35 pages not entirely from scratch. also apparently there needs to be a budget, so that'll be something to deal with too. totally a different system (perhaps simply in that it is a system) than heriot watt.
