one of the other phd students, alicia, organized a 'hub catch up' at hoopla, a little coffee cafe close to campus on thursday (23 august). it was really nice to socialize with some of the students. i think there were about 10 of us and i did have a super delicious chocolate brownie. it was a really nice way to start the work day too. alicia seems open to trying to get people together (she figured they could introduce me to hoopla as i hadnt been - it's not walking distance from campus though) which i appreciate.
